An architectural fantasy with a very elaborate and rich interior of a church with tall columns and bases leading to an altar, slightly visible to the left. Mauro Tesi was mostly active in Bologna, and well known as an architectural painter. His elaborate scenographic views with a complexity of motifs, often creating the illusion of breaking into space, are in keeping with Bolognese traditions of the 'quadraturisti' who followed in the footsteps of Angelo Michele Colonna (1604-1687) and Agostino Mitelli (1609-1660).
