Description

NIKE, NIKE SB DUNK HIGH PRO, SIZE 9

Rubber, Cotton, Leather

2005

In collaboration with Washington grunge rock band Melvins, Nike released two colorways inspired by their music, album covers, and general mantra. In line with the bold sounds of the rock band, the design of these Nike SB’s were as engaging. The two colorways, black and white, were released just before the band began their Fall 2005 Tour of the US.

Designed with a heavy black upper, this 'Melvins' model is detailed with embossed writings and symbols found across the band's artwork. The skull and crossbones across the toe highlights the grunge of the genre of music. Both the outsole and Nike SB accent on the tongue tag feature a stark crimson contrast.

The Nike SB Dunk made its formal debut in 2002, when Nike officially reworked the famed Dunk basketball sneaker originally designed in the 1980s with upgrades suited for the skateboarding community. The man behind it, former Nike executive Sandy Bodecker, is credited with building one of Nike’s most beloved subdivisions in the early 2000s with the Nike SB line.
