Description
Pyritohedron Pyrite
Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mountains, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania
3¾ by 3⅕ by 3 inches (9.5 x 8.1 x 7.6 cm).
A large single specimen of pyrite with unique "pyritohedron" shape, displaying a mirror-like sheen with sharp and lustrous crystals.
Yielded from the tanzanite mines, this pyrite specimen is unique due to its “pyritohedron” shape. Pyrite—also known as iron sulfide—is a prime commercial source of both sulfur and iron, and is highly coveted by collectors due to its lustrous, cubic, and complex modified crystals, as evidenced by the specimen offered here.
