the letter addressed to the Berlin publisher Gustav Bock, in German and French, concerning the singer Clara Schüler, 2 pages, no date; the documents signed being two receipts for monies received including for Ba-ta-clan, La Chanson de Fortunio, Pépito and Orphée aux enfers, 12 March 1859 and 22 January 1861, and two contracts signed, assigning the publishers Bote & Bock in Berlin the German rights to Les bergers, Barbe-bleue, Coscoletto and La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein, March 1866 and February 1867
8 pages in all, various sizes, two items on printed stationery of the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens, Berlin and elsewhere, 1859-1867, where indicated; together with an early edition of the vocal score of Offenbach's La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein
The subject of Offenbach's letter was the singer Clara Schüler, with whom Offenbach was amorously involved (the composer's Schüler-Polka, 1860, was dedicated to her).
