Description

Romanée St. Vivant 1999

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti

Côte de Nuits, Grand Cru

Excellent level and appearance, straw wrapped, case banded until inspection; Excellent niveau et apparence, emballé avec de la paille, caisse cerclée d'origine jusqu'à l'inspection

Tasted in 2009 from a Jeroboam at a dinner in Hong Kong. The bouquet has notes of coffee beans with the vivid fruit. On the palate, there is great depth and potential longevity, especially in this exotic format. In magnum in 2009, almost black in colour. A dense bouquet of real power. Deep plums and smoky damsons. Intensely plummy, fat and four-square on the palate. A giant - what the French might call "un monstre". Freshness and tannin. Rich in glycerol. Can open out a lot more. Wait 20 - 50 years in magnum! Massively flavoured and constructed. Heaps of ripeness. Serena Sutcliffe, MW WA 96
