L'Arc ou Acrobate au cheval rouge (cirque Vollard)

signed Marc Chagall (lower right)

gouache, watercolor, pastel and brush and ink on paper laid down on canvas

26¼ by 20¾ in.

66.7 by 52.7 cm.

Executed in 1927.

The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by the Comité Chagall.

This work is in very good condition. Executed on grey wove paper laid down on canvas. The edges are taped. Minor pigment shrinkage in a few areas of brown pigments near the left edge, and in the center under the figure's arched body. One nailhead sized loss to the white pigment of the crescent moon at upper right. "Marc" of the signature slightly obscured due to frame abrasion. There are very fine horizontal and vertical striations visible throughout, which may be inherent to the medium and the artist's working process. The colors are bright and fresh.

Framed: 31¾ by 26⅛ in. (80.6 by 66.4 cm.)
