Ideas for Metal Sculpture
signed Moore. and dated 34 (lower right)
pen and ink, brush and ink, ink wash and watercolor on paper
14¾ by 10⅞ in.
37.5 by 27.6 cm.
Executed in 1934.
Executed on cream wove paper which has been backed by another sheet. The sheet is hinged at two places along the top edge verso, with picture corners securing the two bottom corners, to a window mat. Artist pinholes at all four corners, with one associated loss to the lower right corner. Two repaired tears at the left edge towards the upper corner, with 1/4 inch associated loss at the upper tear. One 1-inch flattened crease to the right edge towards the lower corner. Very minor scattered dots of foxing throughout. Two punctures at the center left of the sheet. One 1/8 inch tear to the right edge, towards the upper edge. There is moderate discoloration to the edges of the sheet, possibly from a previous acidic mat, and there are some diagonal streaks of discoloration, likely from the glue adhesive that joined the two sheets. This work is in overall good condition.
Framed: 22⅜ by 18⅜ in. (56.8 by 46.7 cm.)
