Desnudos con mangos
signed Carreño and dated 43 (lower right)
oil on canvas
41 by 31¼ in.
103 by 79.4 cm.
Executed in 1943.
This work is restored and should be hung in its current state. The condition is generally very good. The canvas has been lined onto a piece of linen applied with a traditional glue. The paint layer is stable but well-textured and unaffected by the lining. The painting is clean and very lightly varnished. When the work is viewed under ultraviolet light, the artist’s original color reads very strongly, but it is also possible to identify a small number of actual retouches. A few small dots of retouching are visible to the left of the hips of the standing woman. Dots of retouching can be seen in the center of the bottom edge. Small retouches can also be seen in the deep blue to the right of the breasts of the seated woman, in the grey color in the left thigh of the seated woman, and beneath the fruit being held by the standing woman in the green color. All of these retouches are very minor. Overall, the condition of this work is very good. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
