Duco on board laid down on panel
24 by 18½ in.
61 by 47 cm.
Executed in 1937.
This work was painted onto a thin piece of board, which has been mounted onto plywood. The plywood has been reinforced with a wooden lattice on the reverse. The paint layer is stable, clean, and varnished. The paint layer reads quite unevenly when viewed under ultraviolet light. There is a retouching on the top edge near the upper right corner, and another retouching on the right edge about 4 inches from the lower right corner. Other retouches are slightly harder to identify, but appear to be concentrated around the edges and corners of the work. Retouches have been added to some of the stronger cracks within the head and hair, particularly in and around the eyes. The cracking to the paint layer is quite raised in places, but no instability or weakness is visible. The work should be hung as is.
