This oil on canvas is in excellent condition. It is well stretched onto what is presumably its original stretcher. The inscription on the reverse is clearly visible. The paint layer is stable and does not appear to be dirty. The surface is unvarnished, which is appropriate. Retouches have been applied to minor paint loss caused by two small scratches in the light grey color in the upper left corner. The retouches are good and should remain. There may be a few other tiny losses associated with a small amount of abrasion in the rust-colored triangle to the immediate left of the mouth of the cat. These appear to have been retouched as well. No other retouches are visible under close examination under ultraviolet light. The work should be hung in its current state.
