This work on canvas has been lined using wax as an adhesive. The paint layer is noticeably dirty and was probably not cleaned at the time that the work was lined.
There is an area that may have become unstable in the past in the white pigment to the immediate left of the neck. This area fluoresces under ultraviolet light. This fluorescence may be original to the artist, or some heavy retouches may have been applied here. There appears to be a heavy thread entering into the canvas in the upper left edge and running horizontally through the popsicles, which was most likely in place when the artist painted the picture.
Overall, the condition of this work is very good. Cleaning the work would dramatically improve the work’s appearance. Removing the lining would significantly improve the condition of the work. After proper restoration, this work will be seen to be in very good condition. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
