Born in 1947 in Bombay, Rekha Rao is the daughter of celebrated Indian painter, K. K. Hebbar. She studied painting under her father but is widely recognised as developing her own distinct and accomplished artistic practice: ‘... her style and approach are all her own and entirely different from those of her father’. Her first solo exhibition was held in Bombay in 1969. Since then Rao has exhibited widely in India and overseas, and her works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art and Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi, and in the Singapore National Museum.
