Acquired directly from the artist in India circa 1990s

Ganesh Haloi’s early works were predominantly landscapes, but he was later lauded as one of India’s most accomplished abstractionists. This transition from realism to abstraction took place in the late 1970s. Haloi's abstract works go beyond mere visual documentation and reflect the artist's own introverted and philosophic temperament.

Lots 14 and 15 are beautiful examples of Haloi's work - less geometric than some of his compositions, these works utilise watercolour and gouache (respectively) to create a softer form of abstraction, in which the striking green and blue pigments blur and bleed into each other.

More recently, Haloi has been receiving international critical attention after his showing at Documenta 14 in 2017, in Kassel, Germany.
