Le vase noir

signed F. LEGER. and dated 47 (lower right); signed F. LEGER., dated 47 and titled on the reverse

oil on canvas

65 by 50.5cm., 25½ by 19⅞in.

Framed: 90.7 by 76cm., 35⅝ by 29⅞in.

Painted in 1947.

The canvas is unlined. UV inspection reveals no signs of retouching. The canvas is slightly undulating. There are two tiny specks of loss: one near the upper left corner and the other near the upper right corner of the red square. There are instances of fine lines of craquelure to impasto in places. There may be some rubbing and flattened impasto tips to the impasto red in the red square. There is some historic frame abrasion to the extreme edges. There is some light surface dirt to the work and some small instances of surface accretions and small spots of staining, only visible upon close inspection. This work is in very good overall condition.
