Repos de Midi was executed in 1948 and is a a fully mature work characteristic of the Zeitgeist of Vieira da Silva. Its exquisite qualities convinced the famous American art collector Larry Aldrich to start his personal collection in 1951, along with Zao Wou-Ki’s Red Still Life. It was chosen as one of the highlights which Larry Aldrich presented from his collection in the exhibition Old Hundred, A Selection from the Larry Contemporary Collection 1951 – 1964. The success of Repos de Midi encouraged a fine selection of museums to exhibit it in a three years tour across America from 1959 to 1962. Since then, it has remained in private hands and has never appeared on the market.
