Sous-bois

signed C Pissarro (lower left)

oil on panel

26.8 by 21.3cm., 10½ by 8⅜in.

Framed: 45.9 by 42.8cm., 18⅛ by 16⅞in.

Painted circa 1864.

The panel is sound. Inspection under UV light reveals some small spots of retouching to the sky in the upper right quadrant and a further horizontal line of retouching to the grass in the lower centre of the composition (approx. 2cm). There are some faint lines of craquelure in places and a few tiny accretions. There is some light abrasion to the extreme edges of the panel. This work is in overall good condition.
