Pêches dans un compotier

signed Fantin. and dated 72. (lower left)

oil on canvas

23.5 by 31.3cm., 9¼ by 12⅜in.

Framed: 39.5 by 47.2cm., 15½ by 18⅝in.

Painted in 1872.

This painting will be included in the catalogue raisonné of Fantin-Latour’s paintings and pastels by Galerie Brame & Lorenceau now in preparation.

The canvas is not lined. There is a milky varnish through which UV light cannot fully penetrate, however UV light examination does reveal some fine lines of retouching to the extreme edges of the canvas. There are some fine lines of craquelure and paint shrinkage in places. There are a few scattered small fly spots and tiny surface accretions. This work is in overall good condition.
