Langs den Amstel (Along the River Amstel)
signed LEO GESTEL (lower left)
oil on canvas
24.5 by 36.5cm., 9⅝ by 14⅜in.
Framed: 36.8 by 48.7cm., 14½ by 19in.
Painted circa 1908-10.
The canvas is not lined. There are fine lines of craquelure throughout, including stretcher-bar marks along all four edges. UV light inspection reveals several small retouchings: a small area to the left part of the upper edge, a further few small spots elsewhere on the upper edge, an area to the right part of the lower edge, and a 2cm-long line towards to the centre of the left edge (corresponding to a repaired tear). There are a few small scattered paint losses to parts of the composition and to the corners and parts of the extreme edges. There are a few fly spots. This work is in overall fairly good condition.
