La danse macabre
Property from a Private Collection, Ireland
1897 - 1994
La danse macabre
signed P.D., dated 2-59, titled and inscribed SPY (lower right)
pen and ink, gouache and wash on card
59.5 by 75cm., 23½ by 21½in.
Executed in February 1959.
The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by the Fondation Paul Delvaux.
Executed on cream wove paper, not laid down and taped to the window mount along all four edges. The sheet is slightly undulating in the upper left and upper right corners. The edges are all unevenly torn. There are some scattered spots of foxing in places. The work would benefit from a new mounting arrangement. This work is in overall good condition.
