Property from a Private Dutch Collection
Aristide Maillol
1861 - 1944
Femme lisant
oil on paper laid down on canvas
30 by 39.2cm., 11¾ by 15⅜in.
Framed: 48.3 by 57.5cm., 19 by 22⅝in.
Painted in 1891.
Painted on paper, laid down on canvas. UV light inspection reveals an uneven varnish through which the UV cannot fully penetrate, however there does appear to be an area of retouching to the upper left corner. There are several repaired tears to the sheet, most prominently to the lower right corner. There are some scattered creases in places and some light surface scratches, which probably occurred as part of the artist's working process. This work is in overall good condition.
