Study for Vanity

signed G. L. Brockhurst. (lower right)

pencil on paper, squared for transfer

unframed: 55 by 39.5cm.; 21½ by 15½in.

framed: 70.5 by 53cm.; 28 by 21in.

Executed in 1915.

The work is executed on paper which has been laid down on a sheet of card. The paper edges are uneven. The card has been tabbed to the mount along the left edge verso. The card is slightly bowed. The work appears to be in good overall condition. There are Artist's pin holes to both top corners and along the edges in places. There is paper skinning along the bottom edge with remnants of adhesive visible in places. Further small area of paper skinning can be seen in the top left corner. The sheet is time-stained with minor specks of matter, as well as minor smudging and foxing visible in places. In particular, there are handling marks around the edges and evidence of studio detritus. The work is presented in a simple wooden frame, held under glass.
