Ophélie

signed ODILON REDON and dated 1902 (lower left)

oil on paper laid down on canvas

61.9 by 49.3cm., 24⅜ by 19⅜in.

Framed: 80.2 by 67.5cm., 31⅝ by 26⅝in.

Painted in 1902.

Painted on laid paper and laid down on canvas, possibly by the artist's studio, the edges of which are taped. UV inspection reveals a few small spots of retouching to parts of the edges. There is an artist's pinhole to each of the four corners and some minor paint shrinkage to parts of the darker green and brown pigments. There is a small supported tear towards the centre of the upper edge (visible only upon close inspection) and a flattened crease to the lower left quadrant. This work is in overall very good condition.
