This bodegón, or kitchen still life, was painted by Tommaso Realfonso, an artist active in Naples in the first half of the eighteenth century and dedicated exclusively to the representation of still lifes.  Much of his production included floral or fruit still lifes that include a naturalism first developed by Caravaggio in the previous century and revived in Naples and beyond at the time Realfonso was active.
