Workshop of Guillam Forchondt the Elder, Monogrammist J.P. de K

Guillam Forchondt the Elder headed a large workshop and international art dealership with outposts throughout Europe that played an instrumental part in the spread of Flemish religious imagery to Spanish-controlled lands in South America. The present composition is one of many versions created in the Forchondt workshop for export to the New World in the 17th century. The present artist added their monogram to the foot of the cross, though the identity of "J.P. de K" remains unknown.
