Portrait of a lady wearing pearl earrings

oil on canvas laid on panel, a circle

panel diameter: 5½in.; 14.0 cm.

framed: 8⅜ by 8¼ in.; 21.3 by 21.0 cm.

This charming portrait of a lady wearing pearl jewelry likely dates to the seventeenth century. Though almost certainly created as a portrait, at a later date the woman was understood to represent a saint, as indicated by the thin gold halo that remains faintly visible.
