Anonymous sale, ("The Property of a Gentleman"), London, Christie's, 5 February 1988, lot 99;
There acquired.
Possibly, A. Lasius, Quiringh van Brekelenkam, Doornspijk 1992, p. 155, cat. no. B36 or B37.

Two unlocated paintings depicting a man and woman drinking wine are mentioned in Angelika Lasius's catalogue raisonné of Van Brekelenkam, but without dimensions, it is unclear if either of these refers to the present work. Dated 1664, this panel was painted during the artist's most productive period. At this point, both Gabriel Metsu and Jan Steen had left Leiden, so Van Brekelenkam was able to take a more dominant position in the local market for genre paintings.1
