M. Wieseman, Caspar Netscher, Doornspijk 2002, pp. 225-226, under cat. no. 81, copy (i).
This small canvas of four children with a dog and a cat is one of several copies known of a painting dated 1668 by Caspar Netscher formerly in the Rothschild collection, but now lost.1  It has been proposed that Netscher's original was a portrait of his four children, all of whom would have been about the age depicted in 1668, although this identification cannot be proven.
