By whom gifted to the The Art Institute of Chicago, 1970 (as Francis Cotes);

By whom sold ("Sold by the Order of the Board of Trustees of the Art Institute of Chicago to Benefit the Acquisitions Fund"), New York, Sotheby's, 30 June 1997, lot 173;

There acquired by a private charitable trust, until 2001;

Thereafter acquired by the present owner.
