Impressive sapphire and diamond ring, 'Trombino', Bulgari, circa 1970
寶格麗 藍寶石及鑽石 'Trombino' 戒指
Set with a cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 26.09 carats, the bombé mount set with baguette and brilliant-cut diamonds, size 53, signed Bulgari.
Accompanied by SSEF report no. 123922 and AGL report no. 1124018, each stating that the sapphire is of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating; together with a certificate of authenticity from Amanda Triossi.
The Trombino design dates back to the 1930s, its name derived from the word tromba, Italian for little trumpet, as the design is somewhat reminiscent of the small instrument. In 1932 Giorgio Bulgari gave one of the very first examples to Leonilde, his future wife, as an engagement ring. The design to this day remains relatively unchanged as we can see in the above example which was made almost 40 years ago. It is one of the most successful and iconic designs by Bulgari.
