Fine diamond bracelet, Marzo, 1920s

Marzo 鑽石手鏈

Of openwork geometric design, set with circular- and single-cut diamonds, length approximately 190mm, signed Marzo, French assay mark for platinum and maker's mark.

Laurent Marzo was a Spanish jeweller who was first acquainted with the processes of jewellery making while working for his uncle, who was a jeweller and goldsmith to the Spanish Court.

Marzo moved to Paris in 1901 and registered his maker’s mark, establishing himself at 207, rue Saint-Honoré. In 1911, a partnership was formed under the banner Marzo and Laillet and the firm moved to 22 Rue de la Paix. During this time, the firm sold pieces competing at the top end of the jewellery market. When Marzo and Laillet parted ways, Marzo continued to make jewellery at rue de la Paix.

In 1925, his exhibition of exquisitely crafted jewels won a Grand Prix at L’Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. Testament to his talent as a jewllery designer, he was awarded the Légion d’Honneur two years later.

Laurent Marzo passed away in 1929 and his son Rafael took over the house. Marzo jewellery can be distinguished by their elegant designs, and the timeless look of the pieces which were created more than a century ago.
