A Regency mahogany, boxwood- and ebony-strung cylinder desk, circa 1800 in the manner of John McLean
the upper shelf surrounded on three sides by a brass gallery and enclosed by two brass grille panels, the roll top of the main section enclosing an arrangement of pigeonholes and drawers with ivory handles and a pull-out writing surface with adjustable slope and covered with later punched ultramarine leather, above two frieze drawers and raised on tapering legs terminating in castors, with gilt gesso and gold-painted cornicing throughout
