Released in 1998, the Patek Philippe reference 5070 was the first chronograph-only wristwatch released by the brand since the 1960s when the iconic reference 1463 ceased production. The watch is one of Patek Philippe's largest wristwatches ever created, measuring at an impressive 42 mm diameter. Popular from its release, the reference 5070 received a luxurious platinum case in 2008 to commemorate its decadal anniversary.
Reintroducing their chronograph-only line in such bold fashion, the enormous 42 mm case diameter and the thick, stepped bezel paid tribute to the legendary reference 2512, which measured at a gigantic 46.2 mm with influences from the Art Deco period and large aviator’s watches. What makes the reference 5070 outstanding is that it is the last chronograph collection to utilize the famous Lemania 2310 movement before Patek Philippe switched to an in-house caliber with its successor, the reference 5170.
It is thought that only about 250 5070 timepieces were made in platinum and it remains one of the best neo-vintage chronographs on the market with a fabulous appeal to collectors.
