This pilot's watch was ordered by the Italian Air Force in the beginning of the 1960's through A. Cairelli, a Roman dealer. It was not a watch that was in the Zenith catalog. The Reale Aeronautica Italiana (Royal Italian Air Force) submitted a set of requirements for the watch that Zenith would later build.
Overall, Zenith made 2'500 watches of which 2000 were distributed to the military and 500 were kept by Cairelli to later be sold to civilians.
The present watch is one of the military issued pieces.
