The Rolex Submariner 114060 was first introduced at Basel World in 2012. The model had to take a perilous challenge: bring the mythical Submariner no date, the most celebrated diver's watch in the world, into the 21st century and, by the same occasion, replace the popular 14060.
To succeed, the Geneva brand redesigned the case while keeping the signature 40mm diameter. Most noticeably, they fitted the 114060 with a highly resistant Cerachrom bezel with platinum coated PVD graduations. Finally, the 904L stainless steel bracelet equipped with the new Oysterlock safety clasp and Glide Lock Extension system to adjust it in increments of 2mm.
The public was immediately seduced by this new model and its popularity has been growing ever since. The present lot is accompanied by its original accessories, making it even more attractive.
Sotheby's is honored to offer the collection of a former race car driver (in total 28 watches) with proceeds benefiting an initiative to support children of refugees in Germany.
