Released in 1998, the Patek Philippe reference 5070 was the first chronograph-only wristwatch released by the brand since the 1960s when the iconic reference 1463 ceased production. Came out with a surprise, the watch is one of Patek Philippe's largest wristwatches ever created in history. With great popularity, the reference 5070 received a luxurious platinum case in 2008 to commemorate its decadal anniversary.
Reintroducing their chronograph-only line in such bold fashion, the enormous 42 mm case diameter and the thick, stepped bezel paid tribute to the legendary reference 2512, which measured at a gigantic 46.2 mm with influences from the Art Deco period and large aviator’s watches. What makes the reference 5070 outstanding is that it is the last chronograph collection to utilize the famous Lemania 2310 movement before Patek Philippe switched to an in-house calibre with its successor reference 5170.
With exceptional physical attributes, only around 250 5070s were made in platinum and it remains one of the best neo-vintage chronographs on the market with a fabulous appeal.
