Inspired by elements from mother nature, the present Lady Arpels Papillon is possibly one of the most poetic watches created by the maison. It combines the most exceptional craftsmanship from wonderous watchmakers, including enamellists, engravers and stone-setters to create a spectacular balance of artistry and timekeeping. From the case to the dial, the watch is fully flourished with round and pear-shaped diamonds, and sapphires from blue, mauve and violet. The case back on the other hand, is decorated by astonishing sceneries with the techniques of bas-relief, marvelous and dynamic. On the dial, the scenary of the flower shrubs is sure to pique the interest of the observer, featuring plique-à-jour and curved plique-à-jour enamel forming the fine curved lines of the bushes, which was created by an enamelling technique that allows light to pass through. Shifting the attention towards 8 o'clock would be the amazing butterfly automata, fluttering in elegance and connected to the intricate mechanisms of the watch. Developed exclusively for Van Cleef & Arpels, the movement allows the butterfly to flap its wings while being wound. The butterfly could also be activated on demand by a trigger at 8 o'clock, and would even flap randomly from time to time, imitating the uncontrollability of living things.
