Manufactured between 1959 and 1980, the Rolex GMT-Master has one of the longest production runs in Rolex's catalogue. It replaced the first model of the GMT-Master reference 6542, introducing crown guards to the case and replacing the radioactive Bakelite bezel with an aluminium insert.
In its long production history, the reference 1675 would be produced in an abundance of variations which is very fascinating to Rolex collectors. The present example can be identified by carrying a gilt dial, the earliest type of dial Rolex would use on their sports watches. The text on the dial is printed with a warm, golden colour against the glossy black surface. Rolex would eventually phase out the gilt dial with the matte dial, rendering the predecessor extremely collectible.
