1988 is definitely an important year for Rolex. Not only did Rolex introduce a band new reference for the Cosmograph Daytona, it was further upgraded from a mechanical movement to an automatic movement, powered by the legendary Zenith calibre 4030. This "neo-vintage" era of the Zenith Daytona has always been fascinating, and the present watch would feature traits which are captivating to watch collectors. Cased in a handsome sheen of yellow gold, the present example of the reference 16528 is fitted with the highly sought-after porcelain dial. Only identified from the "R" series to "L6" series, these porcelain dials exhibit a glossy finishing that elevates the three dimensional effect of the printed text. Another feature on the present dial would be the "suspended logo", as the text "Cosmograph" appears detached from the four lines of text above. Lastly, upon close inspection on the bottom subsidiary dial, one would notice the Arabic numeral 6 to be upside down, another feature referred by collectors as the "inverted 6". Appearing on the earliest iterations of the reference 16520, the inverted six is possibly an error which was corrected in later productions of the reference. Manufactured in the year which the Zenith Daytona was launched, the present watch is discovered with a lot of attractive traits and further retains its box and certificate, making it highly desirable among collectors.
