One of Cartier's most famous creations, the Tank Basculante was first developed in the 1930s for polo players who needed a way to protect their watch dials from damage while playing. Whilst the famous Reverso watch can be rotated around a horizontal axis, the Tank Basculante can be turned vertically.
Over the course of its 90-year production span, the model has undergone very little change and has remained the aesthetics ever since. It was mostly made in stainless steel with a quartz movement or in precious metal with a hand winding mechanism. The present Reference 2390, on the other hand, featured a rare manual winding movement encased in stainless steel. While maintaining the finest horological standards, the watch offers a sports appeal that is true to the piece's original personality.
