The Milgauss is one of the most distinctive lineups among Rolex watches. Primarily aimed to meet the demands of scientists and engineers, it was designed to be used by those working in strong magnetic fields areas which can affect the precision of their watches. By the use of anti-magnetic alloys and an iron movement ‘cage’, Rolex had successfully overcame the effects of magnetic fields up to 1,000 oersted. First introduced in the early 1960s with its completely re-designed case and dial, the reference 1019 represented a dramatic departure from the styling of its predecessors without the lightning hands, rotating bezel and honeycomb dial. The clean and sleek appeal is revolutionary in the lineage and paved the way to future Milgauss designs.
