of typical cylindrical form, inscribed on outer sections with Hebrew presentation inscriptions, the inner panels with further Hebrew text and dated (equivalent to) 1917

The inscriptions to the interior read: “‘This is the Torah that Moses set’ [Deut. 4:44]. This tik and the Torah scroll inside it are in memory of the departed Lulu bat Farha, may she abide in Eden, wife of Elijah Sassoon Shinnakha. She died Thursday, 13 Nisan 5677 [April 5, 1917].” / “When Moses charged us with the Torah as the heritage of the congregation of Jacob” [Deut. 33:4].

 

The inscriptions to the exterior read: “This tik and the Torah scroll inside it are in memory of the departed Lulu bat Farha, may she abide in Eden, wife of Elijah Sassoon Shinnakha. May her soul be bound up in the Bond of Life.” / “[Given] on condition that anywhere the owners of the Torah scroll want to transport and deposit it, permission is granted…”
