An American Silver Torah Shield, Wolpert, Tobe Pascher Workshop, Circa 1959


rectangular and of curved outline, pierced with hebrew inscription, has chain;

together with a Pointer with partly spot-hammered surfaces and pierced with inscription, J. Segal / Handmade, Israel,

2 pieces.


Length of shield 9 in.

23 cm.

On the shield, the inscription reads: “The right hand of the Lord is triumphant!” [Ps. 118:15-16].

 

On the pointer, the inscription reads: “In eternal memory of Aryeh Leib ben Ze’ev and Peninnah bat Joseph, 1963.” At the base are the words “This is the Torah” and near the hand is the four-letter name of G-d.


The shield is inscribed, "Presented to Temple Beth Emunah in honor of the 52nd Wedding Anniversary of Mr and Mrs. Harry Lazarus January 12, 1959."
