1968

welded and enameled steel, slate, painted wood

signed PAUL EVANS and dated 68 with Dorsey Reading's fabrication mark

30¼ x 96½ x 22 in. (76.8 x 245.1 x 55.9 cm)

Overall in very good condition. The metal elements present with surface irregularities and great texture, including welding spatter, which are inherent to the artist's practice. The metal elements present with light oxidation throughout, which is consistent with age and common for such works, as well as scattered surface scratches and occasional small losses to the enamel particularly concentrated to the edges. The textural patchwork metal surface and heavily sculpted door fronts present with light soiling concentrated to the recessed contours of the design. The slate top is in excellent condition overall and presents with a few minute indentations to the edges and scattered minor surface scratches, faint abrasions and light soiling consistent with gentle use. The cabinet opens to two main interior compartments, one fitted with a drawer. The painted wooden interior presents with occasional surface scratches, wear and light soiling consistent with age and gentle use. The cabinet rests on a wooden base with applied patchwork metal in good condition with some occasional scattered scratches, scuffing and wear consistent with use. The proper front right corner of the base with an area of more pronounced bending to the metal application, measuring approximately 3 ½  in. A highly artistic piece with an alluring presence.
