base impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/1651

36¾ in. (93.3 cm) high

10½ in. (22.7 cm) diameter of shade

Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the shade displays an autumnal palette with foliage executed in scarlet and maroon reds, burnt orange, mossy green and light brown/mauve against a beautiful, rich background register of confetti glass. The shade with approximately 15 hairlines dispersed throughout which have been recently sensitively stabilized by a professional glass conservator. The shade is associated with the base which originated as a smoker’s stand and was converted at some point in its history. This pairing is particularly visually harmonious and imparts the lamp unit with a strong sculptural presence and impressive scale.  The top of the base has been fitted with three additional prongs to accommodate the shade, which have recently been realigned by a professional conservator to ensure stability. The base is in overall very good condition and presents with scattered minor surface scratches, wear, abrasions and discolorations, consistent with age and gentle handling. The patinated bronze surfaces with some occasional oxidation and traces of surface soiling. The telescoping mechanism functions smoothly.  With a later replaced electric socket. A spectacular example of this exceedingly rare model displaying an exceptionally artistic and nuanced glass selection.
