Inscription:

On a summer day of jiwei year, I found this hollyhocks painting in an old bamboo chest, which I painted in gengzi year. Twenty years have passed since then, and this painting was executed when I first entered a new phase of stylistic and technical changes. Inscribed by Cheng Shifa in Shanghai.

己未夏日，撿舊笥獲此庚子時所寫蜀葵花，今已歷廿年矣，是幀為初度變法也。程十髮並識於上海。
