The arms are those of Gérard and Dampierre, and this tray has most probably been made for the wedding of Maurice, Baron Gérard, with Béatrix de Dampierre in January 1880. Maurice Gérard was the great-nephew of the famous portrait painter François Simon Gérard (1770-1837). After his father, he inherited from the vast fortune of the painter and so was able to buy the hôtel de la Vaupalière avenue Matignon. He had another hotel built just behind, today the Jockey Club hotel.
