A large Palissy-type moulded dish "Temperantia", circa 1585-1600, after a model by François Briot


the circular dish with a central boss moulded with a figure titled TEMPERANTIA, above four cartouches with further allegorical figures emblematic of the Elements, named AQVA, TERRA, IGNIS and AER, the panels divided by winged termes among foliage, the well enriched in a dark-blue glaze encircled by a rim with further vignettes of Minerva and the Liberal Arts, named for GEOMETRIA, ASTROLOGIA, MINERVA, GRAMMATICA, DIALECTICA, RHETORICA, MUSICA and ARITHMETIQUA, divided by sections moulded with masks, animals and foliage, within an engrailed rim, enriched in a typical palette
