A gold and enamel casket, probably French, circa 1680-1685


rectangular, the domed lid and all sides enamelled with gently raised pale blue oval roundels painted with black foliate borders within gold bands, surrounded by opaque white enamel decorated with raised red pellets within fine black foliage, gold hinge and clasp, raised on gold ball feet, the inside enamelled with black borders and stylised floral ornaments on a pale blue ground, unmarked apart from later French import marks, in a later velvet-lined leather case stamped for Wartski, Londonweight: 43.4 g

length 2 1⁄8 in.; 5,7cm.
