AN ARTIFACT NATIONALLY RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE AND BEAUTY OF MATH IN THE INFORMATION AGE

Heinz-otto Peitgen is a German mathematician who has made great contributions to the study of fractals and chaos theory, and who spearheaded the use of fractal geometry in computer graphics, of which the present work is the result.

This print was presented to United States Senator Pete Domenici on Capital Hill at the congressional reception to honor the passing of the bill for National Mathematics Awareness Week, April 14-20 1986.

This tribute to Peitgen's work, offered in celebration of a national push to inspire young Americans to pursue mathematics, demonstrates a moment in time in which math was the primary tool to navigate the new frontier of the digital age.
