Description

Prince Albert

Autograph letter signed, to his cousin Ernst zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg

writing that he is now a most respectable family man, which makes him feel old and pompous, that his life is so busy at court he feels ten years are compressed into one, wishing he could visit Coburg but with no prospect of this in the near future ("...Wie die Sachen stehen fange ich an unentbehrlich zu werden Victoria und die Kleine Familie bedürfen meiner Pflege Kund und eine Unsumme von Geschäften würden ins Freie fallen...") and looking forward to spending a fortnight at Claremont where Victoria wants to spend her birthday, 5 pages, 8vo, Buckingham Palace, 13 May 1843, in black and gilt frame, some text slightly faded

Written following the birth of Victoria and Albert's third child, Alice, on 25 April 1843, Albert warmly refers to his wife as "neue mama". Albert had recently been bestowed with an increased burden of royal duties, augmenting his status and number of public appearances.
